Two new categories have been added to our community, ship fittings and guides.
Please take the time to populate this area, it would be really nice to have a decently sized ship fitting library for newer players to pull from and train for. I am aware that other websites cover ship fittings fairly extensively, but the environment presented on the majority of those webistes is far from new player friendly. Hopefully we will be able to get some good fits together for this EVE demographic.
Here you can put up guides about anything and everything eve related. It is tough to decide what new players would need or would want, or with how much information they would be coming into the game so feel free to add guides for various strata of skill.
Hope that this is will help grow and organize the PH community!
Over this weekend various people have spotted the Project Halibut advert on the EVE login screen!
A HUGE thanks to everyone who donated to Project Halibut to get this advert. It’s the best place to catch new players: no need to find a podcast or magazine, this is on the login screen!
So everyone in the PROJECT HALIBUT chat channel, get ready to help all the new players who’ll be joining!
If you’re familiar with EVE’s learning curve, you probably won’t be surprised to learn that there’s more to it than just undocking and warping off, especially if you’re not in highsec or at war.
Not knowing how to undock safely can cost you your ship. Knowing the mechanics can not only save your ship, but give you more confidence when travelling to the less secure parts of New Eden, or give you the edge if you find yourself in a war. Also the mechanics relating to undocking, like the session-change timer, apply to other areas of EVE.

Since I started playing EVE I’ve been noting down all the useful information I’ve come across. Things like which NPCs do which damage, how to avoid accidentally get bad standings with the major races and getting shot at in highsec, how to set up your overview, and links to useful apps and websites.
It’s not particularly well organized, but it’s got some useful information in it, so I’ve decided to share it with the community: http://bit.ly/hKJrGV
Can you think of any other useful titbits of information that should be in there? Got any other top tips you want to share? Comment and let us know!
Recently, while working with a newer player that is trying to survive in Eve, he made a statement that somewhat caught me off guard.
“How am I supposed to participate if I don’t have the right skills trained or enough isk to have the right fleet compensation?”
When I asked what he meant by it he explained the following situation:
He currently belongs to a corp that actively recruits newer players. In this corp they do lots of group things, mining, missions, wormholes, low-sec roams and more. The issue is, in order to participate, he has to fly specific ships. In order to fly those specific ships, he has to train to use them AND train to fit them. So he constantly finds himself changing the direction of his skill queue in order to participate and even then, he rarely get to do so because his limited game time doesn’t allow for him to spend 2 hours making his fit match that of the more advanced players.
To compound the issue, he spends all of his isk fitting ships to join the Corp activities but never makes enough to pay for what he buys to participate.
So, the question is: In an active corp, how to you fold newer players into the corps activities while they train themselves to a level where they can participate on the same level?

So, you heard about it briefly on episode 28 of The Eve Commune Podcast. We are looking at helping new players in even more ways. The First thing we are working on is a partnership with Aideron Robotics. Soon, we will begin taking players into the corporation and begin giving them goals. At first the goals will be simple things like manufacturing so many of an item. They goals will then grow things like making your first 10 million isk by trading.
For all of the advanced players out there, what goals do you think a new player would benefit from most?
